Intensive Dutch Courses in Antwerp
Belgium, one of the founding members of the European Union and home to its most important institutions, straddles the border between Germanic and Latin cultures. This cultural exchange between the Dutch speaking Flanders to the north and the Francophone Wallonia to the south makes this a dynamic and stimulating environment. Indeed, residents of what is today Belgium are major contributors to our global cultural heritage, having produced such great artists as Bruegel or René Magritte.Antwerp is a very animated metropolis and home of the most important universities in Flanders. From its position overlooking the mouth of the river Scheldt, Antwerp has long dominated northern European trade. In the 16th century, the cities wealth attracted merchants and manufacturers from across the continent and today it boasts the second largest port in Europe. Still, the old city holds plenty of charm for those who prefer a quieter look at Europe; many of the old buildings have survived, including the beautiful Gothic and renaissance facades surrounding the town market. Antwerp also hosts an animated night life, with pubs and night clubs famous world-wide.
The School
Our school is situated in a residential quarter between two large parks, about 5 km from the Antwerp city center and close to public transit. Class sizes are kept small, typically around 4 students per class and never more than 7. All teachers are native Dutch speakers and qualified professionals. Courses are designed to improve all 4 language capacities (oral expression, listening comprehension, written expression and written comprehension) and our courses are very well suited for students preparing for the Nederlandse Taalunie. All students receive a placement test upon arrival. The school is a registered centre for the preparation of the dutch official international exam CNaVT.Language Courses
We offer two programs in our catalogue:- Intensive Group Courses
This is our base program, consisting of 18 hours of lessons per week and an individualized study program. Classes are designed for students with an intermediate knowledge of Dutch equivalent to 3 to 6 years of Dutch in school. Courses begin every Monday except during July and August (see "Dates" section below for start dates during the summer). - Intensive Group Summer Courses
This course is similar to the basic Intensive Group course above, except that some of the individualized study program is supplemented with 5 hours of activities in Dutch per week. Please see the "Dates" section below for precise start dates.
Students aged 14 to 20 may also be interested in our holiday courses in Bruges or Haarlem.

Accommodation
Accommodation is typically in Dutch-speaking host families as this provides students with a very important classroom outside of the classroom. Students are provided with single rooms, although double rooms can be provided on request. Please note that while all accommodation prices are fixed and specified on the table to the right, payment is made directly to the host families without passing any intermediaries.For programs more than 4 weeks in length, student studio apartments are available and include kitchenette and bathroom with shower, sink, and toilette. For this option first 4 weeks are arranged with course registration and all later rentals are concluded directly with the landlord.
Accommodation is available from the Sunday before classes start to the Saturday after they finish.
Fees
Course Fees: The complete fee structure for this program is laid out in the table to the right. Please note that accommodation and course fees are separate. Fees include:- All administrative fees and didactic material

- Mid-day drinks at the school
- Summer courses: 10 hours of activities in Dutch per week
- Immersion Course: 10 or 15 hours of activities in Dutch per week
Accommodation Fees: Accommodation fees are paid directly to the school or host family on arrival. Fees are, however, fixed as shown here on the right.

Dates
- Courses begin every Monday, except for absolute beginners who may begin on the first Monday of the month. Summer courses are organized in July and August.
- Holidays (no classes) : Last two weeks in December and the first week of January, Good Friday, the Monday following Easter, 1 May (labor day), Ascension, Pentecost, the 15 August, and the 11 November
Transportation
The closest train station to the school and accommodation is Berchem (Antwerp). You may arrange your own travel, or we can make arrangements for you. The local public transit network is efficient and reliable and tickets cost 1€ for 1 hour of travel.Host families will meet students at the train station on arrival.
