Exchange in an Australian High School
Adelaide, situated in the south of Australia, is an old colonial city founded in 1836 that has grown to the home of 1 million people today. Surrounded by green parks and a white-sand beach, the warm but temperate and dry climate make it the perfect place to enjoy the Australian lifestyle. The city has a relaxed, cosmopolitan atmosphere, but the cost of living is much lower than that of its European equivalents and the quality of life is very high. In short, Adelaide has all the ingredients for an unforgettable exchange.Academics
The South Australian Government School Program, the official program that we represent in Europe, offers students the opportunity to study for between 1 term (quarter) to one year with the choice between 3 programs:
High School program: In this program, students follow a normal curriculum in a High School with Australian students. Courses last the entire day from 8:15 in the morning to 15:15 in the afternoon. Subjects include English, math, languages, health and physical education, science, social studies, the arts, and technology. Certain schools also offer more specialized subjects, including music and oriental languages
Term of English: This program is designed to prepare students with low English abilities to prepare education in an anglophone school. Depending on the student's level, the courses can be combined with regular high school classes or simply as a full-time English course.
Combination program: Here, students begin with a term of full time English courses, then graduate into a regular High School for the rest of the stay.
Each term is 10 weeks of course and 2 weeks of vacation.

A Unique Experience
An exchange program is probably one of the best educational investments that at student can make. As an exchange student, participants live as an adoptive member of their host family. They go to school and discover all the aspects of the daily life of Australians, learning how they live, think, and relax. Students discover the history and surprisingly rich traditional heritage of Australia and have the enriching personal experiences that you won't find in school books. The experience is, as a whole, a powerful linguistic, cultural, and personal enrichment that participants never forget.Australian Host Families
Students are placed with an Australian host family during their stay, with whom they share their daily lives. The families are regularly visited by our local representative and are carefully selected to assure student's well-being.All students have a single room with all of the necessary facilities (showers, laundry, etc).
Academic Calendar
The Australian school year is divided into 2 semesters, which in turn is divided into two terms of 10 weeks each, with two weeks of vacation between each term and a six week summer break in December and January. The school year begins in January and ends in December, which, if desired permits students on a European schedule to follow take a year long break in the middle of their school year and return to finish with knowledge and experiences that will allow them to easily surpass their peers, especially in English.-
