Learn English in Bournemouth

Bournemouth is without question one of the finest student towns on England's South Coast. Its beauty and numerous facilities have helped to make it an important centre of tourism, education and business. It is also an excellent centre for shopping. Communications are good, with a comprehensive bus and train service extending throughout Britain and to many parts of Europe. London is only 100 minutes by train.

Bournemouth hosts numerous events during the year, including powerboat races, vintage car rallies, international tennis championships and windsurfing competitions. During the summer, there are weekly firework displays from the pier, laser-light shows, the Musicmakers Festival and the unique Flowers by Candlelight, when the people of Bournemouth gather to light 15,000 candles in the Central Gardens.

Bournemouth has five theatres and concert halls, offering a huge selection of events throughout the year. There are plays, pop and classical concerts, musicals, opera, ballet and comedy. Bournemouth has two orchestras, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the Bournemouth Sinfonietta.

With over thirty night clubs and discotheques, including the two largest discos in the south of England, there is plenty of night life in Bournemouth. There are also some 180 restaurants and cafés offering every type of international cuisine.

Language Courses

We offer a wide variety of programs in Bournemouth for every need:

• Intensive English:
  This intensive programme (40 lessons of 40', equivalent to at least 30 lessons of 50') is designed for those who desire a short course of intensive classroom learning. Owing to its intensive nature this programme is not available for beginners or very advanced students. Duration: 2 to 4 weeks. Minimum age: 17
  
  
• Semi-intensive English:
  We also offer English classes on a somewhat less intensive basis than the intensive English class listed above. With 28 lessons of 40 minutes per week, this course is available to all ability levels year round for a duration of 1 week to an academic year.
  
  
• General English:
  This course, which is best suited for students who plan to work part-time while pursuing their studies, strives to maintain the core material taught within the more intensive courses in a shorter period of time. With 20 lessons of 40 minutes per week, this course is available to all ability levels year round for a duration of 2 weeks to an academic year.
  
  
• Examination Preparation:
  Specific programs are run on a 12 week period. We prepare students for: Cambridge Exams (Cambridge First, Cambridge Advanced, and Cambridge Proficiency), Oxford University (Preliminary and Advanced), IELTS, and the TOEFL/TOEIC.
  
  
• Specialty English:
  We offer many types of specialty English classes, including Business English, Tourism and Management English, Medical English, and Military English.
  
  
• English "Light":
  This program is aimed at students wishing to enjoy a short program in England at a reputable school at promotional prices. The courses, which are in fact taught by university students as part of the curriculum for degree in education, allow foreigners to sit in on English classes for very reasonable rates. We organize accommodation in an English host family and participants have access to the school's social program.
  
  
• English and Golf
  This is a more relaxed course for students wishing to combine their vacation and educational experience at any time of the year. The mornings are filled with 4 English classes of 40 minutes each and each afternoon is dedicated to golf (1 hour of play plus coaching by professional golfers).
  
  
• English refreshers for English teachers
  These courses are designed for English teachers who live in non-English speaking countries to improve or simply brush up on their English abilities. Courses include a grammar overview tailored to participants' needs, work on phonology including pronunciation, stress, rhythm and intonation, and classes on current idiomatic use of English. The classes also include lessons on the latest teaching materials and didactic methods.
  
  

Accommodation

Host families are selected for their friendliness as well as their experience in taking care of foreign visitors. After the initial inspection by our Accommodation Officer they are regularly reinspected by the school. The well being of all students is a prime consideration of the school. To this end, there is a full time Welfare Officer available to give advice and help on all matters concerning the student's stay in England. Students over 18 have the option of staying in our fully equipped residence, however this option does not include meals although an equipped kitchen is available.

Travel

We offer pre-arranged coach travel from Brussels or Calais to Bournemouth for 165€, including an extra night on some return dates when our return coach travels on a Sunday. The schedule for summer 2007:

• Departing Brussels/Calais: su 24/06, sa 30/06✲, sa 07/07, sa 14/07✲, sa 21/07, sa 28/07✲, sa 04/08, sa 11/08✲, 18/08, fri 24/08
• su 01/07✲, su 08/07, su 15/07✲, su 22/07, su 29/07✲, su 05/08, su 12/08✲, 19/08, sa 25/08, sa 01/09

✲= Additional stops in Gent and Kortrijk

Individual departures are possible every Saturday or Sunday outside of the Easter and Summer holidays.

Alternatively, students can arrange their own travel to and from Bournemouth. There is no extra charge for transportation from the Bournemouth station to a student's host family, and transportation from the London Airport can be arranged for a fee.

We also regularly arrange travel to Bournemouth from Paris, Calais, or Brussels outside of the summer months and can arrange travel from other locations world wide.

Intensive English, Semi-intensive English, General English, Specialty English, English Light, and English and Golf are all offered year round.

The Exam Preparation courses are run in accordance with test dates:

• Cambridge First, Cambridge Advanced, and Cambridge Proficiency: 24 th September, 2007 – 14 th December, 2007.
• TOEIC and IELTS: 17th September - 7th December, 2007.
• The English Refresher for English Teachers course is not offered in July or August. Short courses (3 weeks or less) start every Monday, and long courses (4 weeks) start on the following dates: 03 Jan, 30 Jan,, 27 Feb, 27 Mar, 24 Apr, 22 May, 29 Aug, 25 Sept, 23 Oct, 20 Nov

Prices

The fee structure for all programs is laid out in the table to the right. Prices include:

• All lessons (20, 28 or 40 lessons /week)
• Home stay in a host family single or shared room.
• half board (if staying in the residence: equipped kitchen, no meals)
• Schoolbooks and materials
• All taxes and enrolment fees
• Certificate of attendance or course report
• Access to all school facilities such as computer rooms (including Internet access), language lab and library
