English in London
As the capital of the United Kingdom, London is one of the world's leading business, financial and cultural centres. It is the most populous city in the European Union with a population of over 7.5 million, and its influence in politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion and the arts all contribute to its status as a major global city. Its diverse population reflects the UK's colonial past, with large ethnic communities from around the globe.London offers an unparalled environment to learn the English language. It is the undisputed cultural center of the Anglophone world, boasting some of the world's most comprehensive history and art museums, all of which have free admission, and almost daily concerts and events ranging from the latest pop rock to baroque classics. Its historic attractions, including Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and the tower of London, attract millions of tourists every year and offer students in the area an unbeatable opportunity to learn English culture in tandem with their language studies.
London also offers students plenty of opportunities to pass their free time, with world class shopping facilities such as Herod's or famous markets such as Covent Garden or Picadilly Circus. The city's great cultural diversity translates to an incredibly diverse and rich gastronomical landscape, and restaraunts on every corner offer good meals for comparatively reasonable prices.
The School
Our partner in London offers a multicultural environment where students are not likely to meet speakers of their own language (less than 3% of students are francophone, for example). The school has three campuses, all in the center of London, and provides courses of 15, 20 or 25 lessons of 50 minutes each on subjects ranging from basic English to Business English or preparation for the Cambridge examinations. Each campus provides common rooms and free internet access. The first campus is located on Picadilly Circus and hosts beginner to intermediate students. The second is a few minutes walk from Trafalgar Square and teaches intermediate to advanced classes. The third campus, located close to Oxford Street and Covent Garden, hosts our specialized courses, including courses in business English and examination preparation courses.
Average class sizes are 12 students and classes are limited to 15 students maximum. This school probably offers the best possible cost-benefit relationship of any of the English language schools certified by the British Council.
Language Courses
We offer 3 basic programs in our catalogue:-
General English
These courses are aimed at students of all levels who wish to, learn, improve or perfect their English. We accept all ability levels, from absolute beginners to to the most advanced students. Students receive a certificate at the end of their course attesting to their participation, level, and amount of progress. We will place students at the campus most appropriate for their level. Courses are available for 15, 20, or 25 hours a week in 90 minute blocks. For students in taking 15 hours of classes a week, either the morning or afternoon will be free every day. Those taking the 20 or 25 hour options will have both morning and afternoon classes and include conversation and writing workshops. Classes start every Monday. -
Business English
Our business English courses are built to teach students English communication in a business environment as well as the latest specialized vocabulary in a wide variety of fields. Seminars and discussions about various topics, including globalization, brands & branding, trade, finance, business strategy and ethics, give students opportunities to develop their skills in a practical environment. The basic course is 15 hours per week and can be combined with either 5 or 10 hours a week of General English to provide a more intensive experience. These classes are only available for intermediate and advanced students of English. Classes start every Monday. -
Exam Preparation
These courses are designed to help students who need to use English for a specific purpose. We offer exam preparation for a wide variety of tests, notably the three Cambridge exams: the First Certificate in English (FCE), the Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), and the Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE). We also offer a preparation for the IELTS (equivalent to the American TOEFL).
