Learn German in Heidelberg

Germany is the European Union's most populous country, the largest exporter of goods in the world and the second largest importer. Beyond its simple economic dominance, however, Germany attracts foreign interest and as the home of a beautiful and fascinating cultural heritage and some of the most spectacular landscapes in Europe. This "Nation of Poets and Thinkers" has produced such musical giants as Bach and Beethoven, literary geniuses including Schiller and Goethe, or philosophers such as Immanuel Kant or Georg Hegel. The land offers something for every interest, from the wilderness of the Black Forest, the spectacular views of the Alps in Southern Bavaria to the sunny beaches of the island Rügen north of Berlin.

Heidelberg the capital of the Kurpfalz region, lies in the picturesque valley of the Neckar river, south of the Odenwald, and is characterized by a particularly mild climate. In the course of history, Heidelberg's beauty has attracted many poets, painters and scientists. In the early 19th century the town became the most important centre of German romanticism. Intertwined with that age are the poets Arnim, Brentano and above all Eichendorff. Founded in 1385, the university of Heidelberg, the oldest university in the German-speaking world still attracts a lot of students from all over the world.

Countless monuments bear witness to a tumultuous history. If you walk up to the castle you will pass through a gate into a garden, in former times famous all over the world as "Hortus Palatinus", which was laid out at the beginning of the 17th century. From the terrace of the garden you will have a magnificent view of Heidelberg and of the Philosophenweg (Philosopher's way) lying on the other side of the Neckar. In the courtyard of the Castle you will be able to admire buildings from different ages, as well as the Grand Terrace, the Great Vat.

The School

The school campus is situated in the vibrant centre of the academic quarter at Bismarckplatz (Bismarck Square) within walking distance to the Neckar (only 200 metres) and the Castle (about. 1.5 km). The school can be easily reached by public transport from all directions. Shops, restaurants and local authorities are in the near vicinity.

The schools quality management is certified ISO 9001 compliant.

The academic quarter in Heidelberg includes not only the Academy of Foreign Languages, but also the Academy of Trades and Technology, the Academy of Economic and Social Management, the Academy of Information Technology, as well as several state-acknowledged technical schools in the fields of nursing and social professions. Students will therefore find themselves in an intellectually stimulating environment with plenty of opportunities to socialize with local people.

The teachers have qualified academic degrees. Using systematic language instruction methods they guide their students in learning vocabulary and grammar, practising listening and reading comprehension, pronunciation, writing, and above all conversation. The teacher acts as a moderator, who does not give authoritarian instructions but offers incentive and stimulates the student's independent language activity by:

The Classes

The school offers the following courses for learning German: Each student will have to take a placement exam upon arrival at the school to determine his/her level.
