Spanish Courses for Teenagers in Benalmádena, Spain

Benalmádena is situated at the foot of the Sierra de Mijas, just 20 kilometres away from Malaga. The climate is mild, varying between a minimum winter temperature of five degrees and 35 in summer. It is divided into three urban areas: Benalmádena Pueblo, Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmádena Costa. The first is at 280 metres above sea level, a typical mountain village with narrow streets and geranium-potted windows. The second is between this area and the sea, an urban area that grew up around the train station and the main road between Benalmádena and the coast. The third, Benalmádena Costa, is just what the name suggests: a coastal town with all the relevant facilities of such a place.

Benalmádena is a town of 30,000 inhabitants. Originally a fishing village with beautiful white washed little houses, it has developed into a lively and animated town while retaining its old charm and character. There is plenty to do with attractions such as the Puerto Marina and the Telecabina . Many different water sports can be practiced here, including hang-gliding and underwater snorkeling. The cable cars (telecabinas) link Arroyo de la Miel with the peak of the Carramolo mountain, and from here, on a clear day, one can see right across to Africa.

The harbor area has plenty of bars and restaurants with terraces, and there are numerous festivals in Benalmádena right through the year. As in the case of nearby towns like Torremolinos and Fuengirola, the large foreign population of Benalmádena has resulted in a local cuisine that is part tradition, part import. Here, one can eat almost anything from any part of the world, but the local traditional cooking is excellent too. The beauty of the environment, the friendliness of the locals, the flamenco shows, the nightclubs, pubs and restaurants, the warm climate, these are the ingredients which make this place ideal to combine study and relaxation.

The School

Upon arrival in Benalmádena, students receive a placement test and begin courses almost immediately. In addition to the 15 hours of Spanish course each week, the school also organizes a variety of activities designed to both entertain the students and showcase some of the most interesting and beautiful aspects of Spanish life and culture. Every Saturday there is an excursion to a major city such as Ronda, Sevilla, or Granada, and during the week there are afternoon excursions to local areas of historical and cultural interest, such as Málaga or Marbella. At the school itself, we organize sports or other activities 3 afternoons a week, and there are 3 evening activities a week, such as Spanish films, bowling, or parties. We even offer classes in Spanish dances, including the Salsa and the Sevillanas. We can confidently say that students who attend our courses leave not only with a better knowledge of Spain and Spanish, but also with a greater appreciation of Spanish culture and a true desire to continue their studies for a lifetime.
